Maisie Lopez (b. 1996) is a documentary photographer and producer based in Bristol, England. Her practise focuses on the exploration of personal themes, traumas, and the complex emotions tied to her experiences. After graduating from the BA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication, Lopez has developed a refined approach to visual storytelling and production.
Her work is deeply rooted in introspection, as she reflects on issues that have directly impacted her, allowing the space to create raw and emotionally charged imagery. Her preferred medium is analogue photography, with a particular focus on medium format, a choice that underscores her commitment to a slow and deliberate process with each photograph.
This hands-on approach allows full engagement with each phase of the creation process, from capturing the image to the final print. Lopez's work has been showcased in prominent venues, including the Copeland Gallery in Peckham, The Art House by Acrylisize in Bethnal Green, and The Affordable Art Fair 2025 in Battersea.
She was the recipient of the Mues + Burman Photobook Design Award 2025, and was a Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award 2025 Nominee for her project, Good Grief, where she hand-made a photobook, which explores the complex emotions surrounding the death of a parent and the emotional spectrum of grief.
